The main attention is focused on the two tends of this herme-neutics: semiotic (Dannhauer, Leibniz, Meier) and critical (Spinoza, Chladny, Ernesti). The paper analyzes the role of the rationalistic idea of hermeneutica generalis for the transition from rhetorical hermeneutics of the 16th century towards methodical hermeneu-tics of the 19th century. It also discusses the views of that time on the relations between the objective truth of text and the author’s intention. ER -
